Every UK research-peptide retailer we can find is assessed across three separate areas: how transparent they are about lab testing (Testing Transparency, shown as a tier below), whether we can establish who's actually behind the business (Business Transparency, shown in the table), and whether their overall online presentation is clear and responsible (Responsible Practice further down). A retailer can do well on one and poorly on another. These are shown separately, never blended into one number or an A-F letter grade. 302 UK retailers are on file; 159 have been assessed for Testing Transparency.

A Certificate of Analysis (CoA) is a lab document showing what's actually in a batch, confirming purity and identity through independent testing: a retailer publishing real, checkable CoAs lets you verify what you're buying instead of just taking their word for it (full explainer). We identified 302 UK retailers; 159 could be assessed and are scored across six observable signals: per-batch publishing, gating method, named third-party lab, QR-verifiable lookup, dedicated CoA URL, and public stance on third-party testing. The remaining 143 could not be assessed at all and are excluded from scoring rather than marked red: not being able to check is a different fact from failing a check. Full methodology, tier thresholds and last-verified dates are below the table. Want to check a certificate yourself rather than take our score on trust? Here's how, step by step.

The deeper tier

Independent Verification

Independently Verified retailers are shown first in the table below. PeptideClear has gone behind the public evidence and checked it more closely: an 8-area, 54-check digital evidence assessment, substantially deeper than the six-signal Testing Transparency check every retailer gets. It doesn't change or improve a retailer's Testing Transparency, Business Transparency or Responsible Practice results below: those stay visible exactly as assessed. What moves a retailer to the top is that the deeper process was undertaken. How the deeper checks and scope work →

Status key

Positive · Observation / gap · Material concern · Baseline review pending · Not assessed / reconfirmed / applicable

Colours apply to individual assessment areas and are not an overall retailer rating. Amber covers observations, limited transparency, or a business identity that couldn't be established from the public information checked: a factual gap, not a conduct finding. Red is reserved for an actual, manually-confirmed Responsible Practice finding. Blue means under active review, awaiting manual confirmation: not good, not bad, not scored, and not Independent Verification.

Rows are grouped into the bands shown above the table, not ranked by a hidden overall score: Independently Verified retailers sit at the top regardless of their pillar results (that's disclosed, not implied as "best"), then baselines are grouped from most complete/positive down to material concerns, with "Baseline review pending" as its own band in the middle. Alphabetical order is the tiebreak within a band, never a points system. Baseline Last Reviewed is when the free Testing Transparency / Business Transparency / Responsible Practice check last ran; the date shown under Independent Verification is a separate date for that deeper process. Per-batch publishing, QR verifiability, founded year and Companies House number for each retailer are on its own page, linked above, along with the full CSV/JSON download referenced in methodology.

How Testing Transparency is assessed

Testing Transparency is the first of the Trust Index's three baseline assessments, alongside Business Transparency and Responsible Practice. We apply the same published checklist to every UK research-peptide seller we can find. Sellers don't apply to be included, and nobody can pay for a better result.

We look at whether a seller publishes

  • · a Certificate of Analysis for every batch, not just once for the product line
  • · the certificate somewhere you can see it before buying, without giving an email address
  • · the name of the third-party lab that did the testing
  • · a way to check the certificate against the lab's own records, not just a PDF anyone could edit
  • · a dedicated page or archive for its CoAs, not certificates scattered across product listings
  • · a clear public position on third-party testing, rather than staying silent on it or rejecting it

That produces the Testing Transparency result shown in the table below. It's deliberately narrow: a strong result means a seller is transparent about its testing. It is not PeptideClear vouching for the products themselves, and it says nothing about safety.

For retailers: an ordinary, observable change to a baseline signal (we re-check your site and something's moved) publishes without contacting you first. If a finding looks potentially material, it goes to manual review before anything publishes, not straight live. A formal right of reply, where you're invited to respond before publication, belongs to the separate, paid Independent Verification process, not the free baseline.

Think we've got this wrong? Every score is mechanical, but the research behind it is done by people, and people miss things. Spot an error, an out-of-date signal, or a gap? Tell us: it's worked as a correction, not a complaint.

Independence

Nobody can pay for a better result

Nobody pays to be included in the baseline. PeptideClear takes no commission, referral fee or listing payment from any of the 159 retailers scored here. The links out are ordinary links with no tracking attached, and the baseline above earns us nothing whether you use them or not.

We are saying this at the ranking rather than in a footer because it is the obvious objection to everything above, and you are entitled to weigh it. Until July 2026 the objection had force: the site did operate affiliate arrangements, and two of the retailers scored on this page were among them. We removed all of it.

The baseline was already mechanical before that change and still is: six observable signals applied identically to every retailer, with every input published in the table above and downloadable as CSV and JSON. Nobody here can move a baseline tier by hand. If you disagree with one, recompute it from our data and show us where we are wrong.

Retailers can pay for the separate, deeper work of Independent Verification, shown above for 1 of the 159 so far. That payment buys the labour of running a defined 54-check process, not a result: it cannot move a baseline tier, and it cannot buy a favourable verification outcome. Full detail, including how that payment is structured: how we are funded.

What buys a better baseline result

Nothing

No commission, no referral fee, no listing fee, no paid placement, and no arrangement under which a retailer could ask for a baseline tier to be reconsidered.

A retailer cannot buy their way out of a red baseline tier, whether or not they have separately paid for Independent Verification. 61 of the 159 are red.

The full position, including what removing affiliate revenue costs us and how Independent Verification is invoiced separately: how we are funded.

Identified, not scored

143 more UK sellers we know about but haven't scored

These aren't a seventh tier and they don't carry a score or letter grade. A CoA tier requires real certificate-of-analysis findings, and we haven't gathered those for these sellers yet, so scoring them anyway, even at the bottom, would assert a verdict we don't have evidence for. Not being able to check yet is a different fact from failing a check.

UA · Too new to vet yet 0 sellers Show list +

Registered UK companies with a named director and Companies House number confirmed, but under 12 months of trading, not enough for a fair CoA review. We re-review each at the 12-month mark. UA is "unavailable," not a grade: it doesn't sit on the A+ to F scale used for scored retailers, on purpose, so a company being young is never shown as if it were a bad score.

UA · Insufficient data to vet 143 sellers Show list +

No identifiable UK trading entity yet, site unreachable or blocked to us at the time of review, or too little published to assess. Re-checked on a rolling basis. UA is "unavailable," not a grade, same reasoning as above: absence of data is not evidence of a bad seller, so it can't share a colour or scale with a genuine red "weak/closed" score. Full registry with the specific reason for each: dead and unreachable sellers.

The verdict on each retailer, in one line

The same information as the table, written out as a sentence per retailer, so a verdict can be read, quoted or cited without decoding a grid. The reason given is the single most load-bearing signal behind that score.

Reading the table: a few definitions

"Needs re-confirmation" is not a seventh tier. It means a specific finding is serious enough to disclose but not yet certain enough to stand behind as a verdict. It can withhold a tier; it can never lower a score. These retailers still appear in the table above with the unresolved signal named.

"Not yet checked" is not a mark against a retailer. It means we haven't looked, not that we looked and found nothing. Any retailer can ask us to check for free at any time, evidence emailed to the address below, or commission the deeper Independent Verification process. Either way, what we actually find sets the result, in whichever direction that goes.

Separate from Testing Transparency

Responsible Practice: is this retailer clear, upfront and not misleading?

A retailer can have excellent Certificate of Analysis practice and still be unclear about who operates the business, contradict its own policies, or make claims its product pages can't support. The Testing Transparency result above measures one thing on purpose. This measures something different: whether the retailer's overall online presentation reflects a genuine effort to be clear, fair and transparent.

What we expect from a responsible brand

A brand selling a product online should aim to be clear, fair and transparent in everything it communicates. Claims should be accurate, evidence-based and presented in a way that an ordinary customer can understand, without exaggeration, ambiguity or important information being hidden.

Customers should be able to understand what the product is, what it does, what it does not do, who it is intended for, what it costs, and any material limitations or risks before making a decision.

Marketing should inform rather than manipulate. Comparisons should be fair, reviews and endorsements should be genuine and appropriately disclosed, and the overall presentation should not create an impression that the underlying facts cannot support.

Where a product is regulated, medical, health-related, safety-critical or otherwise carries a higher potential risk to the customer, we expect a correspondingly higher standard. Claims should reflect the strength of the available evidence, appropriate warnings and limitations should be prominent, and regulatory requirements should be followed. A responsible brand should take particular care not to overstate benefits, minimise risks, imply approvals or assurances that do not exist, or encourage customers to make decisions based on incomplete or misleading information.

The greater the potential harm if a customer is misled, the higher the standard of evidence, clarity, transparency and caution we expect.

Put simply: be clear about what you sell, be honest about what it can and cannot do, provide appropriate evidence for the claims you make, be upfront about material risks and limitations, and never rely on confusion, omission or exaggeration to make the sale.

How we assess brands

We assess what a brand actually publishes and makes available to customers. We do not claim to know a company's intentions. Our assessment reflects the evidence we can observe.

1. Clear and responsible

The brand appears to make a genuine and consistent effort to communicate clearly, fairly and responsibly. Important claims are appropriately qualified and supported, material risks and limitations are visible, and customers are given the information they need to make an informed decision. Where the product is regulated or higher-risk, the brand demonstrates the additional care, evidence and caution we would expect.

2. Generally responsible, with room for improvement

The brand appears to be trying to communicate responsibly and provide appropriate information, but there are gaps, weaknesses or areas where greater clarity, evidence, disclosure or caution would improve the customer experience. These issues do not currently prevent us from seeing an overall effort to act responsibly.

3. Unclear

There is not enough evidence for us to determine whether the brand is taking a consistently responsible approach. Important information may be missing, difficult to verify, inconsistently presented or insufficiently clear. This does not necessarily mean the brand is acting irresponsibly; it means we cannot confidently conclude from the available evidence that it meets the standard we would expect.

4. Material concerns

The brand's online presentation shows significant departures from what we would expect from a responsible seller, particularly given the nature or potential risk of the product. This may include unsupported or potentially misleading claims, inadequate risk information, important omissions, unverifiable evidence, inappropriate certainty, misleading presentation, or other practices that could leave customers with a materially inaccurate impression of the product.

A Material concerns assessment does not require us to determine why the brand has presented its products in this way. It reflects what we can observe and the potential effect that presentation could have on customers.

Baseline review pending

A distinct, fifth state, different from the four above: a specific signal on file for this retailer (for example, an inherited Material Concerns finding) could not be independently re-confirmed this round, usually because the site could not be re-accessed. Inability to access is treated as neither confirmation nor clearance, so the retailer stays marked as under review rather than being cleared or re-published as settled either way.

Assessed on the same evidence-and-correction basis as Testing Transparency: nobody can buy a better assessment, and a specific reason is recorded for every retailer, visible on its own page. Think an assessment is wrong? Email hello@peptideclear.co.uk with evidence.

Signals we observe

On 2026-08-14 we visited all 159 retailers and recorded four observable signals that feed into the assessment above: whether products are sold in oral or capsule form (oral dosing by design, despite a research-only framing), whether benefit claims are published next to research-only products, and whether a research-use-only disclaimer appears site-wide and inside individual product listings. These aren't scored separately or blended into Testing Transparency; they're evidence that informs the Responsible Practice judgement above.

29

sell peptides in capsule or tablet form, which is oral dosing by design

54

publish benefit claims next to products despite research-only framing

152

publish a research-use-only disclaimer somewhere on the site

123

carry that disclaimer inside individual product listings, not just the footer

Observed by loading each retailer's own site and its product pages. Where a signal could not be observed it is recorded as unknown rather than as a failure, and 134 of the 159 could not be fully observed. A seller can satisfy all four and still receive a lower Responsible Practice status for other reasons, or vice versa: these say something narrower, whether the research-only framing is real or decorative.

Beyond the free score

Want a specific retailer independently verified in depth?

The CoA tier and Responsible Practice status above are free and the same for everyone. Independent Verification is a paid tier on top: lab accreditation checks, batch traceability, corporate and regulatory history, and a right-of-reply process where we put findings to the retailer before publishing them. It never changes the free score, only adds published evidence on top of it.

Named UK manufacturers we reference

Real UK peptide manufacturing happens under MHRA inspection at named facilities. The three we cite across PeptideClear editorial as the reference point for "named lab":

  • · Almac Group (Craigavon, Northern Ireland): MHRA-inspected, 600+ pharma customers, named launches Agios Pyrukynd, Sanofi Tzield, PTC Upstaza.
  • · Sterling Pharma Solutions (Cramlington, Northumberland): UK CDMO, 25+ years peptide synthesis, 40-amino-acid capability.
  • · Biosynth Pepceuticals (Leicester): MHRA-approved API manufacturer, 8 cGMP labs, multi-kilogram commercial supply.

None sells to consumers. They are the contrast point for what real UK peptide manufacturing looks like. Read the full explainer.

Why this matters

Every UK research peptide retailer claims purity. A small minority publish per-batch Certificates of Analysis from a named third-party laboratory. That is one of the few objective signals a buyer can verify independently before buying.

This page exists because no UK retailer can honestly compare its own CoA practice against the rest of the segment. We do that here, in one place, re-checked on a rolling basis.

Research peptide encyclopaedia entries

CoA quality matters most when a compound has a substantial research literature. These are the compounds with the most-cited UK retailer stock and preclinical literature.
